‘DMM’ will be a sixth form magazine aimed at boys and girls between the ages of 16-18. As they attend sixth form they will be currently studying for their As/A levels and also contemplating university places or future careers. The readers of ‘DMM’ maybe have a part time job at the weekend or possibly a summer/half term job in which they earn money for equipment school or for their social lives. They are fun-loving, vibrant and upbeat teenagers who live for the weekends and spending time with their friends. Their hobbies may include, sports, singing, dancing, acting, art and possibly even revising for crucial exams. The typical reader would love to spend a weekend laughing, going out to ‘awesome’ parties and downloading the latest music onto their iphone, ipod or blackberry. Readers of ‘DMM’ will most likely read the magazine when they have what’s called a ‘free period’ where they don’t have a lesson and can spend their time either revising, catching up on homework, listening to music and socialising with friends in the common room. While also providing the students with a source of entertainment the magazine offers a social aspect where other students can discuss the schools; gossip, parties in which to attend, sixth form style tips and also helpful tips for revision. They have a serious approach to their studies while also maintaining their social lives as well, they are able to complete all work assigned and are organised. The typical reader may join some sort of social networking websites, such as; Facebook, Twitter or Bebo. This offers the student a chance to stay in touch with friends who may have left school and maybe attending another college or sixth form.
The name of my magazine will be called ‘DMM’ which stands for ‘Douay Martyrs Magazine’. I thought that this name was suitable as contains the school’s name while also being sort and to the point. It is a magazine which will speak to both boys and girls alike as it will feature common interests such as music, sport, social gatherings, revision tips and also ways in which to dress at sixth form. It promotes a strong view in entertaining the reader while also informing and advising the reader in his/hers studies. The magazine wants to create a text where students can look to for advice and fun, just like the way the reader may want these qualities in a fiend.
